Avoid Getting Scammed By False Online Tech Support

BEWARE!

When it comes to scamming consumers, fraudsters are becoming increasingly savvy in how they convince you to give them information. Scams come in different shapes and sizes . The criminals who create viruses and spyware, for instance, like a pop-up window with an alarming message like, "Your computer is infected! Click here to scan your system and remove the malicious software."

Of course, PC savvy people know better than to click such a pop-up, and that such warnings are often the infections themselves trying to hack into your PC or trick you into entering your credit card number. That's why scammers have turned to a new strategy: the telephone. As described over at one of the blogs, at least 1,000 users have received phone calls with the same alarming message as the former pop-up window: "We've detected rogue software on your computer. We can take care of it for you; we'll just need your credit card number." VSupport LLC is completely against it and does not support such acts.

VSupport suggests you not to trust such unsolicited messages and calls. Do not provide any personal information. Cybercriminals often use publicly available phone directories so they might know your name and other personal information when they call you. Once they've gained your trust, they might ask for your user name and password or ask you to go to a website to install software that will let them access your computer to fix it. Once you do this, your computer and your personal information is vulnerable.
